The past few weeks have been a hectic. As I clicked through the back end of my blog I noticed 5 posts I've started but haven't had time to polish up and publish. Hopefully I'll get to them soon there some neat info I want to share.
Last week (now two weeks ago) my training shaped up like this:
Monday - zone 1 for an hour at the gym followed by yoga. My normal yoga teacher has vanished and her replacement is a male (haven't caught his name yet) the class has also changed to "Yoga for Sports" I was skeptic about the change at first but I really enjoy class. Its now an hour and 30 minutes long and has a great balance of relaxations, mediation and challenging poses. He really focuses on core building and alignment which is the foundation of a healthy body.
Tuesday - zone 3 on the treadmill. The past few weeks I've noticed my heart rate has drop out of the desired zone so this week I up'ed by high and low speeds for this workout - exciting!
Wednesday - BCMC followed by the all exciting car load one of moving.
Thursday - zone 5 on the treadmill. Again I have been noticing my heart rate isn't hitting the targetted zone so I up'ed my speed and felt really good at the end. After this workout I jetted over to Jerico beach for the first night of my 4's co-ed beach volleyball league. Sets in the City is our team name and we rocked winning all our games. I play beach vball for fun but I'll be the first to admit, I find it much more fun when we win! Again I thought it would be a smart idea to move a car load of stuff to my new place so vball was followed by another car load of stuff to my new apartment.
Friday - rest day in preparation for Saturday mornings 5 Peaks Race. I was up early to head out to Golden Ears to race the 1st of the BC edition.
Saturday - Golden Ears 5 Peaks
I woke up only to realise I had packed all my running stuff and transferred it to my new apartment..oops. I also woke up to a cough and the definite feeling that a cold was coming on. Again as with Dirty Duo breakfast consistented of oatmeal (with apples and blueberries) in the car. Upon entering Golden Ears Provinicial Park it started to down pour. I was definitely thankful for the last minute decision to bring my rain coat.
I picked up my race package and tucked under the Salomon tent to dry stay a little dry pre race. I said hi to fellow runners Tom and Duncan before heading to the start line. The race started out quick on a pretty flat trail near the lake. It was raining hard so the trail was wet and super muddy. Streams that were almost dry the week before were now small raging rivers - I splashed right through them:) Yep my pretty pink Brooks Cascadias got absoutely covered in mud. I ended up being pushed pretty hard from the downhill on in this race. The was head to head with a couple girls who run on the road so their speed on the flats and non-technical trails was much better then mine. But as soon as we'd hit a downhill technicial section I would cruise by. This race is 14km so it was over pretty quick. My final time was 1 hour and 14 minutes. Not bad I think I came in 5th for my age group and 14th female overall.
No time to stick around for the awards or prizes because a hung over Pricey and a wickly beat Brad were waiting to help me finish my move.
I'll try to add pictures of the race once they are posted.

San Fran - We're In!!
GREAT NEWS!! Our team (9 of us) got in to the Nike Womens Marathon in San Francisco. The race date is October 17, 2010. I'm so excited I can barely contain myself to my chair at work. The trip is going to be a blast. I. Can't. Wait. And its the week before my birthday so it's like an early birthday present to myself.
This is the finisher necklace from last year - Tiffany's/Nike necklack - not bad for finishing a race. Well back to work now and then I should refocus myself for the Golden Ears 5 Peaks race tomorrow morning.

5 peaks is golden and a new address for me!
It’s a big week/weekend for me.
First off and most importantly this weekend is the Golden Ears 5 Peak Trail Race the first in the 5 Peaks BC race series. Golden Ears is located in Maple Ridge, I grew up camping at the provincial campground. The area is absolutely stunning. I’m racing the Endro Course which is 14km. I just peeked at the list of registered racers I expected to recognized a few more names but a couple stood out. Duncan Coo and Tom Craik both really quick I’ll try to make sure they lose me of the start line so I don’t blow up too quickly. I also noticed two female names - don’t know them but I remember seeing their names last year and they're fast - Amy Roesler and Emily Solsberg. I’ll post results and a race report over the weekend. Can’t wait the 5 Peaks races are so much fun!
Post race I have to race back downtown because I'm moving! Closer to the ocean, mountains and downtown Vancouver – now accepting volunteers for Saturday afternoon - pizza, beer and ice cream will be served. Bring your swimming suit because my new building has a pool (I'm going to get swimming lessons), hot tub (can you say recovery), steam room, sauna and a GYM!
Sunday I’m hoping to get in a long run (hoping is the key word); with the Tenderfoot Boogie 50km race fast approaching - only 3 weekends until the race! I want to get in two more long runs before the race and have one weekend for my taper. That’s my next few days – fingers crossed for sunny weather.

slacker...
Since last weekend I have been a training slacker...but I managed to fit in lots of music and fab trip to Toronto.
Sunday night hanging out Ludacris and Black Eye Peas at their VIP after-show. I'm not a big fan of either's music but I was offered free tickets so figured why not.
Fergie danicng with her "entourage"

Monday - Miike Snow concert at the Commodore (I had my camera on the wrong setting...my pics are terrible but I'll be at his show at Sasquatch so I'll be sure to fix my settings.)
Tuesday night The XX at the Commodore. Outstanding live. A low key chill band and they shocked us with the loudest bass I've ever heard live.

turn left at the ski's
Where to begin? How's about my training this past week? Here's the low down - after a recovery weekend last weekend I really laid it on heavy this week (for me).
monday - tempo run in zone 3 - 45 minutes of real effort
tuesday - zone 3 "playing in my zone" 3 minutes at high end, 3 minutes at low end and repeat
wednesday - planed to do Grouse Grind up and down twice in a row but ended up going up and down the BCMC once at an aggressive pace (zone 3 heart rate). Yes, I was weak but I wasn't feeling well... I'll accomplish my GG^2 goal in the coming weeks.
thursday - zone 5 - 5 sets of 95% effort for 3 minutes with 4 minute recovery and then 2 sets of 100% effort with 4 minute recovery in between
friday - POKER RUN 400 - show down!!
The Princess vs. Reubinator
Pricey Runs vs. Clint
It was tough! The Princess (15:05) and Pricey Runs came out victorious in our respective groupings. Key elements for a Poker Run:
saturday - zone 1 run - met Brad at the base of Grouse mountain and ran to Lynn Headwaters along BP trail and back. I think we ended up covering 16-18km.
sunday - zone 1 long run - Stephan and I ran the Tenderfoot boogie training run just outside of Squamish. Our leader let us know the directions for our run at the start line. "Just keep running and following the trail markers for 25-30 km when you reach the ski's stuck beside the trail, then stay left."
Seriously thats not much when you think of where we were and the distance we were covering but no big deal - right?
The run was beautiful and we end up running a little bit extra...we got lost at the ski's and again after the ski's but it was an absolutely gorgeous day so no complaints from me. During this run I stopped a number of times to take in the new scenery. Waterfalls, crazy view points and a cruise through the Whistler Olympic village check. check. check just another weekend day.
In total we ended up running about 35kms. After lunch in Squamish and a sleepy drive home I was recharged and it was only 3pm.
Driving over the Lions gate bridge I decided I should lay down another 10km on the seawall and enjoy every second of this great day. So I did - a quick stop to my apartment to shower and put on clean running clothes and road shoes and I was off.
Sushi for dinner and I was set to tuck into bed early but then my friend called..."hey I have an extra ticket to go see the Black Eye Peas VIP aftershow - you game?" I not a huge Black Eye Peas fan but how could I turn down free live music?
So now I type while I do my hair getting ready for the show.
tomorrow is a rest day (maybe Yoga if I can fit it in) and the Miike Snow concert at the Commodore.
tuesday I'm hoping my legs are back for some zone 3 action and then I'm going to see The XX at the Commodore.
wednesday I'm off to Toronto for work - but I'm back in time for another weekend of training;)
I feel like I should be scheduling myself some time to sleep in there - but as a wise friend once told me.
You can sleep when your old...
Sorry for so many pics - I couldn't decide which to share - I love them all!

i run to be.
Last week I received an email that made me smile, blush, feel honored, proud and humbled - yep all that at the same time.
It was an email from my smart and talented friend named Sheryl. To ask if I'd join & help her with something completely new to her...
She needed a goal for herself - something to strive to achieve. And since she loves hearing about me and my "crazy" running so she was inspired to train and run her first half marathon.
She sent me the link for a Disney half road marathon because she thought it looked fun. I'm not keen on road running but I know it is much less intimating for new runners and easier to train for then the trails (depending on where you live).
Why this road race?
I love San Francisco
She checked out the website and without hesitating she was in. I sent an email to a few girlfriends and in no time there was a group of cool chicks committed and excited for the trip! The group is a mix of runners (Leah, Katherine, Grace, Caroline and me) and two girls brand new to running (Sheryl and the Napster) so the trip should be an amazing time - if we win the lottery.
This race sells out every year and runners are selected through a random lottery. Fingers crossed our group get selected. I already have a great plans for the weekend in my head.
Katie's story board of the 2010 Nike Women's Half Marathon:
Pretty pink hotel rooms
And music
The Treasure Island Music Festival happens to take place during the same weekend and I plan on buying at least a one day pass for it if I end up going. The lineup has not been announced yet but last year it was really good.
All pink/music aside. I'm super excited for this experience. My fingers and toes are crossed that we get picked in the lottery. I'll be posting training guides and updates for the girls via my blog so stayed tuned for our progress as we near this fun race.

- Would I help her? OF COURSE!!
- Would I run it with her? HECK YA!!
I am honored to be asked to be part of this experience - and proud that my hard work is inspiring someone else.
I wasn't taken by the Disney race but there is one road race that I've had in my mind since last year. And it had almost completely slipped my mind. I replied to her email with the link to the Nike Women's Marathon in San Francisco. With the simply subject line - You in?
Why this road race?
I love San Francisco
It's for women
Nike puts on great events
And you get a limited edition Tiffany's necklace for finishing

My friend Pricey ran the Nike Women's Half Marathon last year; he actually tried to conveince me to come too because last minute a few of his friends couldn't make the trip. I was too worried about money/planning so I passed.
After watching this video he made I decided I would definitely be running the race in 2010. So here for your viewing pleasure dug up from the YouTube archvives is my adventure racing partner Pricey Runs running the Nike Women's Half Marathon 2009 barefoot!!
Gotta love crazy kiwis who think their Aussie.
